Export your results to CSV, Excel or SPSS
You can download a survey’s responses as a CSV file, an Excel (.xlsx) file or, on Growth and above, an SPSS (.sav) file. The export button is on the Respondent List.
Export responses to Excel
Section titled “Export responses to Excel”- Open the survey and choose Responses in the top bar.
- In the left menu, choose Respondent List.
- Choose Export at the top right.
- Choose Excel (XLSX).
The file downloads to your computer. To get a CSV or SPSS file instead, choose that option in step 4.
Which formats you can choose
Section titled “Which formats you can choose”| Format | Plans |
|---|---|
| CSV | Every plan |
| Excel (.xlsx) | Every plan |
| SPSS (.sav) | Growth and above |
The SPSS file carries your variable labels, value labels and measurement levels. If your plan does not include a format, SurveyRock tells you which plan does when you choose it.
What the file contains
Section titled “What the file contains”- Your current filters apply. If you filtered the Respondent List before exporting, the file holds only those responses. Clear the filters first to export everything.
- Matrix questions export as one column per matrix question by default. If your survey has a grid question, the export menu shows a Split grid questions option that gives one column per statement instead.
For how text answers and numbers look when you open the file, see What to expect in exported files.
Large exports and past exports
Section titled “Large exports and past exports”A small survey downloads straight away. A very large one is prepared in the background instead. Either way, every export you have run is listed under Export, then View past exports, where you can download it again.
If you can’t see the Export button
Section titled “If you can’t see the Export button”Exporting needs the Editor role or higher in the workspace. Viewers can see past exports but cannot start a new one. Ask a workspace admin to change your role if you need to export.
Exporting from the API
Section titled “Exporting from the API”The same exports are available through the API and the MCP server. CSV and Excel work on every plan that has API access. See Authentication.
