SurveyRock vs Culture Amp

Need engagement surveys, not a whole people platform?

Culture Amp pairs engagement surveys with performance reviews, goals and 1-on-1s, sold by quote on annual contracts. SurveyRock runs employee and customer surveys, groups open-text comments into themes and drafts a summary (on Growth), and publishes its prices. Here's where each one fits, including where Culture Amp is the better choice.

Culture Amp and SurveyRock overlap on employee engagement surveys and differ on most things around them. Culture Amp is a people platform: engagement surveys plus performance reviews, goals and 1-on-1s, with HRIS-synced demographics, industry benchmarks and configurable confidentiality rules, priced by quote and billed annually. SurveyRock publishes its prices (free to start; Growth, with AI themes, executive summaries and key driver analysis, is $179 a month), runs employee and customer surveys from one account, and has a "Collect responses anonymously" setting on every plan (what it covers, and what it doesn't, is below). Choose Culture Amp if you need performance management, benchmarks, HRIS sync or reporting-level confidentiality controls. Choose SurveyRock if you need engagement, pulse and exit surveys you can launch this week at a price you can see. Confidential vs anonymous: what each one actually does

Culture Amp's own documentation is plain about this: its surveys are "confidential (not anonymous)." In its standard attributed format, each response is linked to the employee's profile. That link is what powers HRIS demographics, participation tracking and reminders that go only to people who haven't answered. Confidentiality comes from reporting rules: results for groups below a minimum (usually 5) are hidden, comments have their own minimum, and you choose None, Basic or Strong protection against someone working out a hidden group's score by subtraction. Basic, its recommended default, covers a group of one; Strong covers any group under the minimum. Culture Amp fixes the settings at launch and shows them to respondents. Culture Amp also offers unattributed surveys through a shared link. Its docs note that these give up targeted reminders, participation tracking and save-and-resume.

SurveyRock responses are identified by default too, and you can turn that off per survey. With "Collect responses anonymously" on, new responses are saved with no link to the invited contact and no IP address, browser, device or location, and the page-view log keeps no visitor IP. Of the parameters on your survey link, only the ones you declare, plus standard UTM tags, are stored. The setting can't be switched off once responses exist, and it doesn't change responses collected before you switched it on. Some records exist outside the response. SurveyRock keeps the day each email invitee finished (the exact time if you add a thank-you email timed from completion; with the exact time, someone with database access could match a response to an invitee), so reminders can skip people who have finished. That also means whoever sends reminders can tell who hasn't responded yet. Our server access logs record visitors' IP addresses and the survey link they opened.

Reporting is where SurveyRock has the most ground to make up. On an anonymous survey, SurveyRock refuses any filtered view (by answer, date, group or survey link) unless at least 5 completed responses match, on every plan. You can raise that to 7, 10, 15 or 20 in the survey's settings, and can't lower it once responses exist. That minimum covers the response list, dashboard charts and comment cards, AI themes, crosstabs and web exports. Crosstab and theme-impact tables also hide small cells. Three things it doesn't do: it has no separate minimum for comments, it doesn't stop someone comparing two filters that differ by one person, and it doesn't limit whole-survey views. Anyone whose role can view responses can read the open-text comments, and a whole-survey export or the API returns individual responses with their exact times and the link they came from.

What that means in practice: compared with Culture Amp's standard attributed surveys, SurveyRock's anonymous setting keeps much less identity alongside the answers. Compared with its unattributed surveys, SurveyRock keeps more: it knows which invitees have finished, which is what makes targeted reminders possible. On reporting, Culture Amp still goes further, with a minimum for comments, protection against inferring a hidden group's score, and rules across its reports. If you run an anonymous SurveyRock survey, don't send one link per person (SurveyRock will let you, and will show responses by link), keep your smallest reporting group at or above the minimum, and agree up front who can read individual comments.

What a 300-person engagement program costs on SurveyRock

Say you have 300 employees and run an annual engagement survey plus three quarterly pulses. That's at most 300 responses in any month, well inside every paid plan's allowance.

  • Solo, $35/mo or $350/yr: anonymous collection, email invitations with reminders, skip logic, unlimited questions, no SurveyRock branding. Reporting is the response dashboard and filters; on an anonymous survey, a filtered view needs at least 5 completed responses.
  • Growth, $179/mo or $1,790/yr: adds AI theme detection and sentiment on comments, drafted executive summaries, Theme Impact (which themes come up disproportionately among low- or high-scoring respondents), key driver analysis, crosstabs, SPSS export (CSV and Excel export are free on every plan) and 10 staff seats. It's the plan we'd recommend for an engagement program, because it adds the comment analysis and the driver analysis.

Every new account gets 14 days of Growth without a credit card, so you can run a real pulse before you pay. Trial sending is capped at 500 recipients per rolling 24 hours, which covers a 300-person launch. Put the Growth figure next to your Culture Amp quote. The Free plan allows 100 responses a month and doesn't include email invitations, so a 300-person program needs Solo or above.

SurveyRock prices from surveyrock.com/pricing. Culture Amp does not publish prices; its pricing page says price depends on employee count, product and service tier, billed annually (checked 28 September 2026).

Where SurveyRock wins

You can start this week, at a price you can see

Culture Amp is demo, quote, then an annual contract. SurveyRock publishes the price of every self-serve plan, from Free to Pro, bills monthly or yearly, and gives each new account 14 days of Growth with no credit card. For a People Ops lead who needs this quarter's survey out, that can decide it.

Anonymous answers, and reminders that skip people who have finished

Turn on "Collect responses anonymously" on any plan, including Free. New responses are saved with no link to the invitee and no IP address, browser, device or location; the limits are spelled out above. From Solo ($35/mo) you can still send email invitations and remind only the people who haven't finished, because SurveyRock records which invitees have finished (as a day, or the exact time if you add a thank-you email timed from completion). The same record means whoever sends reminders can tell who hasn't responded. Culture Amp's anonymous route is its unattributed format, which its docs say can't target reminders or track participation.

Themes, drivers and owned actions, at a published price

Growth ($179/mo) groups open-text answers into themes with sentiment, drafts an executive summary, and ranks which questions move most closely with your eNPS or overall score. Culture Amp has driver analysis and comment summaries too; the difference is that you can see what ours cost. Then assign Actions with owners, due dates, and a baseline and current value. Actions are on every plan.

Employee and customer feedback in one account

Run your engagement pulse and your customer NPS program from the same account, with the same theme detection reading both. Culture Amp's products are built around employee feedback.

Where Culture Amp wins

Confidentiality rules across its reports

Culture Amp applies a reporting minimum (usually 5) and a separate comments minimum across its reports, and lets you choose None, Basic or Strong protection against inferring a hidden group's score. SurveyRock refuses filtered views of an anonymous survey below its minimum (5 by default, and you can raise it to 20), but has no separate comments minimum, doesn't stop someone comparing overlapping filters, and puts no minimum on whole-survey views. If reporting-level confidentiality is your requirement, Culture Amp goes further today.

HRIS-synced demographics and reporting lines

Culture Amp connects to 23 named HR systems on every plan, including Workday, BambooHR, HiBob and Personio, with SFTP for the rest. Demographics, new hires, exits and reporting lines stay current. That powers lifecycle surveys and leader-based reports. SurveyRock has no HRIS integration.

Benchmarks

Culture Amp compares your results with industry, regional and job-function benchmarks built from its customers' surveys. Industry cuts need at least 20 companies and 20,000 people, and new sets come out every January and July. SurveyRock doesn't offer benchmarks.

Performance management in the same system

Performance reviews and calibration, 1-on-1s, goals, 360s and development plans live next to engagement data in Culture Amp. SurveyRock doesn't do performance management. Its 360-degree feedback template is a single survey, not a review cycle.

Global and procurement-ready

47 survey languages (19 fully translated), a choice of US, EU or Australian data centres, SSO on every plan, and a trust centre listing SOC 2 and ISO/IEC 27001. SurveyRock publishes each survey in one of 21 languages, stores data primarily in the EU, and holds no certifications yet: SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 are on our roadmap.

Questions people ask

Is SurveyRock a good Culture Amp alternative?

For engagement, pulse, eNPS, onboarding and exit surveys, yes. SurveyRock covers them with published pricing and AI analysis of the comments. For performance management, industry benchmarks or HRIS-synced demographics, no. Those are Culture Amp's strengths, and SurveyRock doesn't offer them.

How much does SurveyRock cost compared with Culture Amp?

Culture Amp doesn't publish prices. Its pricing page says price depends on employee count, product and service tier, billed annually, so any comparison starts from your own quote. SurveyRock is $35/mo on Solo and $179/mo on Growth, the plan we'd recommend for an engagement program. Yearly billing is 10× the monthly price ($350 and $1,790). Every new account gets 14 days of Growth free, no credit card required.

Are SurveyRock surveys anonymous?

Only if you turn it on. "Collect responses anonymously" is off by default and set per survey, on every plan, so switch it on before you send. With it on, new responses are saved with no link to the invited contact and no IP address, browser, device or location, and the page-view log keeps no visitor IP. Only link parameters you declare, plus UTM tags, are stored. The setting can't be turned off once responses come in, and it doesn't change earlier responses. Some records still exist outside the response: we keep the day each email invitee finishes (the exact time only if you add a thank-you email timed from completion), so whoever sends reminders can tell who hasn't responded. Server access logs record visitors' IP addresses and the survey link they opened. For reporting, filtered views need at least 5 completed responses (you can raise it to 20), but whole-survey results, including the comments, can be read by anyone whose role can view responses, and two filters that differ by one person can still isolate that person. Don't send one link per person.

Can I move from Culture Amp to SurveyRock?

There's no Culture Amp importer. Rebuild your questions from SurveyRock's engagement templates or your own. Export your Culture Amp results before your contract ends: Culture Amp's export guide says account access ends when the subscription does.

Does SurveyRock connect to our HRIS?

No. From Solo, you can import employees as contacts from a CSV to send invitations. Breakdowns by team, location or tenure come from questions you add to the survey. On an anonymous survey, SurveyRock refuses filtered views that match fewer than 5 completed responses, so keep each group at five or more respondents.

Does SurveyRock have engagement benchmarks?

No. If comparing your scores with other companies matters, Culture Amp's benchmarks are a real reason to choose it.

Where is SurveyRock data stored?

Primarily in the EU, on AWS in Stockholm. Some sub-processors, such as payment, support and AI providers, process limited data in the US. When you use AI features such as theme detection or summaries, open-text answers go to US-based AI providers and aren't used to train AI models.
