See what your feedback is telling you
Upload a spreadsheet of open-text comments. Get the main themes and a one-line summary, plus your NPS if you have scores.
What happens to your file. Your score is calculated in your browser. To find themes, we send the comments (and the scores, if your file has them), with email addresses and phone numbers removed, to our AI providers (OpenAI, with Fireworks AI as a backup). They use them only to answer our request and don’t train on them. We keep the comments for 7 days, so you can open them in a SurveyRock account if you sign up, then delete them. Your readout, which quotes up to three example comments for each theme, is kept for 30 days. Please remove names and anything else you’re not allowed to share before you upload. Privacy Policy
Please don’t upload health information, such as patient feedback that mentions a condition or treatment. This free tool isn’t covered by a HIPAA business associate agreement and isn’t built for health data.
The human check is not set up in this environment, so the theme analysis cannot run here.
This sends the comment and score columns to SurveyRock for analysis. What happens to your comments

1. The score, in your browser
If you pick a score column, the page calculates a Net Promoter Score before anything is sent. Scores of 9 and 10 are promoters, 7 and 8 passives, and 0 to 6 detractors; the score is the percentage of promoters minus the percentage of detractors. The range beside it is a 95% confidence range, the same calculation as ourNet Promoter Score calculator.
2. Themes and sentiment
When you press Find the themes, a language model reads the comments in batches. It gives each comment a theme and a sentiment: positive, negative, neutral or mixed. The batches are then merged, combining themes that say the same thing in different words, and a short summary is written from the merged result.
3. Large files
Up to 500 comments are analyzed. Above that, the readout is based on a stratified sample of 500. The preview on this page comes from the first 100 comments of that sample, so it appears quickly; the full readout covers all of it. Both the preview and the full readout tell you how many comments it covers.
4. Promoters versus detractors
With scores, the full readout shows how many of each theme’s comments came from promoters, passives and detractors. That separates what your strongest supporters praise from what is behind the low scores.
Reading it well
Treat themes as a starting point. Before you act on one, read the example comments under it and check how much of the total it covers. A theme with a few very angry comments and a theme a quarter of your respondents mention call for different responses.

What happens to your comments
- Read in your browser first. The file is opened and the score calculated on your device. None of its contents leave it until you press Find the themes.
- Two columns are sent. Only the comment column and, if you chose one, the score column go to SurveyRock. Every other column stays on your device.
- Email addresses and phone numbers are removed before analysis. IP addresses and US Social Security numbers are removed too. Names are not, so remove names and anything else you’re not allowed to share before you upload.
- Who processes them. Our AI providers, OpenAI, with Fireworks AI as a backup. They use the comments only to answer our request and don’t train on them. Both are listed on oursub-processors page.
- How long we keep them. We keep the comments for 7 days, so you can open them in a SurveyRock account if you sign up, then delete them. Your readout, which quotes up to three example comments for each theme, is kept for 30 days.
- Please don’t upload health information, such as patient feedback that mentions a condition or treatment. This free tool isn’t covered by a HIPAA business associate agreement and isn’t built for health data.
- Your email address is used to send you the readout. Follow-up emails go only to people who tick the box. See our Privacy Policy.
Questions
Is the feedback readout free?
Yes. The score, the top three themes and the one-line summary appear on this page with no email address. The full readout is free too: we email you a link to it.
What files can I use?
CSV, TSV or Excel (.xlsx) files up to 10 MB. For Excel files, the first sheet is read. You can also paste comments, one per line, or paste two columns copied straight from a spreadsheet.
Do I need a score column?
No. Without one you still get the themes, sentiment and summary. With a 0 to 10 column you also get your Net Promoter Score and, in the full readout, how each theme splits across promoters, passives and detractors.
How many comments can I analyze?
You can send up to 5,000 comments. Up to 500 are analyzed; above that, the readout is based on a stratified sample of 500 and says so.
Does it work for employee or research feedback?
Yes. Any open-text answers work: NPS and CSAT follow-up comments, employee survey answers (an eNPS uses the same 0 to 10 scale), interview notes or app reviews.
How often can I run it?
Up to three readouts a day from one network.
Collect the feedback and read it in one place.
On SurveyRock’s Growth plan and above, theme detection runs on your surveys’ open-text answers and writes the summary for you, so the next readout needs no spreadsheet. The free plan gets you started.
