Generate a survey with AI

Instead of building a survey question by question, you can describe what you want in plain language and let AI draft it — questions, answer choices, and, where relevant, logic. You review the draft, keep what works, and either edit it directly or ask for changes and regenerate.

Every AI-generated question is a normal, fully editable question once it lands in the builder. Nothing is locked.

AI survey generation is available on the Solo plan and above.

Using it

1. From Create Survey, choose the AI Assisted option.
2. Describe what you want in plain language — the audience, the purpose, and roughly how many questions or which topics to cover. You can also start from one of the example prompts and adjust it.
3. Click Generate Survey. The AI drafts a set of questions and answer choices, and logic where your prompt implies it.
4. Review the draft. If it is close but not quite right, type a follow-up instruction in the same box — for example, “make the open-text questions optional” — and click Update Survey. The AI treats your existing draft as context and revises it rather than starting over.
5. If the result is not useful at all, click Try Again to regenerate from the same prompt, or write a more specific prompt.
6. Once you are happy with it, keep editing normally in the builder: reorder questions, adjust wording, add logic, change question types.

Setting the tone for every generation

Your workspace has an AI customization profile — tone, industry, custom instructions, language, and creativity level — that applies to every generation, so you do not have to repeat the same instructions in each prompt.

It lives in Workspace Settings → AI Customization. Two things worth knowing:

• It is a workspace-wide setting, not a personal preference. Changing it affects generations for everyone in that workspace.
• Only workspace owners and admins can see or change it. If you cannot find it, that is why.

Example

A product manager starting a beta-feedback survey types:

A short beta feedback survey for a project-management app. Ask what they tried, what worked, what didn’t, and whether they’d recommend it to a colleague, with an NPS question at the end.

They click Generate Survey and get a five-question draft, then decide the “what didn’t work” question should be optional. Rather than editing by hand, they type “make the open-text questions optional” and click Update Survey — the AI keeps the rest of the draft and applies just that change.

Troubleshooting

Generate Survey fails or produces nothing. Check your AI credit balance. Each generation draws on your plan’s monthly allowance, and generation stops once that allowance is used up for the billing period.

The draft doesn’t match what I asked for. Be specific about audience, purpose, and roughly how many questions you want — a vague prompt produces a generic survey. Then use Update Survey with a follow-up instruction rather than discarding the draft; refining usually gets there faster than a fresh prompt.

The tone or terminology feels wrong for my industry. Set the AI customization profile once, in Workspace Settings, rather than restating it in every prompt.

AI-drafted logic doesn’t behave as expected. Treat AI-generated skip or display logic as a first draft, exactly as you would logic you built by hand, and check it in the logic simulator before publishing.

I don’t see the AI option at all. AI survey generation is not included on the Free plan.
