        "rendered": "<p>Every user can choose the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.surveyrock.com\/blog\/setting-the-primary-survey-language\/\">default language<\/a> when they create a new survey or change an existing one.  Our Enterprise account holders can now create multilingual surveys.  That means that a single survey can have questions in multiple languages.  When the respondent first clicks on the survey link, they can choose which language they want to take the survey in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"129\" height=\"132\" src=\"https:\/\/surveyrock-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/18165504\/choose-survey-language.png\" alt=\"Create multilingual surveys so that the respondent can choose the survey language themselves\" class=\"wp-image-1131\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Create a multilingual survey<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Start by creating the survey in your default language.  It&#8217;s best to write all of the questions before you start the translation process.  Otherwise you need to redo the translation after making any modifications.  Once the survey and questions are ready, go to the survey settings page and scroll down to the &#8220;<strong>Survey Language<\/strong>&#8221; section.  Click on &#8220;<strong>Change<\/strong>&#8221; under &#8220;<strong>Additional Languages<\/strong>&#8220;. We use the industry standard &#8220;.po&#8221; translation files.  The file name includes the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/List_of_ISO_639-1_codes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">2 character language code<\/a> at the end to help you keep them apart.  There are several tools, both downloadable and online, that you can use the translate the .po file.  We recommend <a href=\"https:\/\/poedit.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">PoEdit<\/a>.  It is also very easy to edit the file directly in a text editor.  It will look something like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/surveyrock-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/18173942\/image-15.png\" alt=\"Translation file contents\" class=\"wp-image-1138\" width=\"533\" height=\"441\" srcset=\"https:\/\/surveyrock-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/18173942\/image-15.png 565w, https:\/\/surveyrock-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/18173942\/image-15-300x248.png 300w, https:\/\/surveyrock-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/18173942\/image-15-150x124.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 533px) 100vw, 533px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Each block of text consists of 3 lines that begin with: <strong>msgctxt<\/strong>, <strong>msgid <\/strong>and <strong>msgstr<\/strong>.  The first one you can ignore but please don&#8217;t change anything here.  The &#8216;<strong>msgid<\/strong>&#8216; is the text to be translated in the primary language.  The &#8216;<strong>msgstr<\/strong>&#8216; is the translation itself.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For certain languages we have already translated error messages and navigation button text but you can change this if you want.  Anywhere you see this: <code><span style=\"color:#07a300\" class=\"has-inline-color\">msgstr \"\"<\/span><\/code> you will need to translate the text from the line above (msgid) and enter it between the quotation marks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Upload translation file<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once all texts have been translated, save the file and upload it.  Click the &#8220;<strong>Upload translation<\/strong>&#8221; button next to the respective language, choose the .po language file and upload.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/surveyrock-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/18175341\/image-16.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1141\" width=\"215\" height=\"96\" srcset=\"https:\/\/surveyrock-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/18175341\/image-16.png 228w, https:\/\/surveyrock-blog.s3.amazonaws.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/05\/18175341\/image-16-150x67.png 150w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 215px) 100vw, 215px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>If there are errors or if you didn&#8217;t translate each entry, you will see a message like this. Languages can be disabled at any time.
